Firm  Scott M. Becker  Michael D. A. Cox

Firm
Founded in 2004, FOURFOLD ARCHITECTURE has performed design in support of building throughout the Puget Sound region, and within many of its county and municipal jurisdictions. We pride ourselves on an efficiency combined with attentiveness that has allowed a small firm to accommodate a diverse scale of work in our project expertise of Homes, Communities, and Cultural Places. We enthusiastically welcome projects from the focused to the complex in scope, where our skills in communication, design, and management; research and team building; may contribute to buildings of the highest design quality and sensitivity to context. The firm is led by Scott Becker.

Our first principle is that design is work we must engage in mutually with our clients, in order to create genuine solutions. We are invested foremost in communication; understanding our client's interests and goals so we may respond effectively, and guide them to a building design they will embrace as their own.

Our approach to architectural design derives from the view that the 'will to make' essentially distills into a drive to satisfy our needs for social gratification: we build and arrange things to improve a place so that others will stay with us. But if we have the propensity to build for ourselves and others, what enables us to build well or appropriately? We believe that only when building includes the intent to care for and maintain a location in good stewardship, can it fulfill its role in dwelling: to enrich our surroundings for a better and sustainable future.

Our practice is organized into four areas of emphasis in the attempt to capture the larger context for our work, and as a reflection of our thinking about thoughtful design and building as a means to dwell. The site content categories include Present for project-specific information and actions, Building for our design approach and project portfolio, Dwelling for recognition and involvement of the firm in the larger community, and Transcendent for theoretical exploration & discussion.

We welcome those new to this site, in hope you will explore our thought and work on your way to selection of an architect for your design team. Please do not hesitate to tell us what you think — we are ever students and aim to learn and grow with your help.
