Entertaining Large Groups and Display Space for Family China Calls the Shots
The on-going, phased remodel of a Richmond Highlands daylight basement home with dramatic Sound views has been a story in continuity of concept, and working carefully as a team to make life easier for the ever-patient owners. The nest now empty, if you will, the couple maintain a healthy entertainment schedule for social groups, and wanted to make improvements allowing the main level of the home to better accommodate guests and show-off the prized possessions: panoramic views and an heirloom china collection passed through generations. The project has included new finishes from front to back of the main level, a complete kitchen remodel with buffet island, and a waterproof paver deck spanning the rear of the home. The design style is contemporary with sensitivity to ergonomics and aging. Cabinetry was carefully sized and arranged based on a thorough inventory of the serving-ware to be seasonally rotated into display cases. The featured solution for celebrating both view and accoutrement is a "cabinet arch" that allows the glass-fronted maple casework to frame the new deck, as well as the ferry traffic beyond.
