Sublime Craft with a Limited Material Palette Define a Contemporary Remodel
The substantial remodel for the original owner of a 1980's contemporary Clyde Hill home is a study in restraint and demanding details. The owner's appreciation of the dependably consistent grain from rift-cut red oak casework was shared by the design team. However, the preference for subdued colors throughout the house to support the fine art collection seemed ripe for challenge when it came to the kitchen island &emdash; the entertainment hub of the home. The design team's suggestion of crisp material accents from glass countertops, stainless steel trim and backsplash, and a burgundy stain to the oak, proved a winning combination. Other bold moves in rich stains and metal followed from the success of this scene.
